Since 1963, American Atheists has been the premier organization laboring for the civil liberties of atheists and the total, absolute separation of government and religion. It was born out of a court case begun in 1959 by the Murray family which challenged prayer recitation in the public schools. That case, Murray v. Curlett, was a landmark in American jurisprudence on behalf of our First Amendment rights. We are working towards becoming a Local Partner of American Atheists by early 2013.
Atheist Alliance of American (AAA) is the umbrella organization of atheist groups and individuals in the U.S. committed to promoting and defending reason and the atheist worldview. AAA's vision is to transform society into one that supports and respects a worldview based on the values of reason, empiricism and naturalism, and respects and protects the separation of religion and government. The mission is to develop and provide educational, advocacy, and community-building programs for the atheist community that assist towards fulfilling the above vision.
The mission of the Center for Inquiry is to foster a secular society based on science, reason, freedom of inquiry, and humanist values. To oppose and supplant the mythological narratives of the past, and the dogmas of the present, the world needs an institution devoted to promoting science, reason, freedom of inquiry, and humanist values. The Center for Inquiry is that institution.
